Inspire 1 drone test over Okinawa surf

Yesterday we were blessed with awesome weather and a few little pre typhoon waves. My good mate Danny melhado of Happy surfing Okinawa got out on his longboard for a few quick waves in our neighborhood here in Yomitan so I thought Id get the DJI Inspire 1 out for a fly over him trying to keep him in the shot as I fly along and also control the camera gimbal at the same time. This is much easier when I have my copilot Keith with me so one of us can concentrate on flying while the other works the camera and gimbal movements.

Temporary control HQ with Red about 400-500m out from the surf

Whats in my camera bag? 2015 version

I recently made an updated "whats in my camera bag" video for my Youtube channel as Id been asked by several subscribers for an updated version. Quite a bit of my Canon gear has changed in the past couple of years and so thought it would be good to show what I currently use for my daily shooting from photoshoots here in Okinawa to overseas weddings. I try to make sure I have a back up of everything in case something stops working during a shoot which sooner or later will happen!

Take a look at the video here...

Some of the main gear featured in this video that I use is:

Think Tank airport take off

Canon 5DmkIII
Canon 1DmkIV (discontinued) find the 1DX here

Canon 70-200mm f2.8L IS
Canon 24-70mm f4L IS
Canon 17-35mm f4L IS
Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art  for Canon  for Nikon

Cactus RF60 X2
Cactus V6 radio triggers
Cactus CB60 softbox
Lastolite Ezy pole  (discontinued?)

Camera support-
Spider dual holster or by direct from and use my offer code Leong20 to get 20% off.

Theres plenty of other brands and gear I use for different shoots such as the Tamron 150-600mm for sports, Rogue flashbenders for other lighting situations, Profoto B1 when I need lots of power on location, fisheye lens and underwater housings, other flash brands such as Yongnuo, the DJI Inspire1 drone etc.. But this is my general bag that gets my by for photoshoots 99% of the time.

Extra shout out to the companies that send me gear to use such as Spider Holster, Rogue, Cactus and ImageVISION. I appreciate all the support!!

Back to Hawaii!!

Just a quick little update: Im currently back on Oahu, Hawaii shooting a wedding this time on the beautiful North shore for Jason and Phuong who live on Oahu. Phuong had originally been following my work on my fotoShisa facebook page and asked me to come over for their big day. Of course I was more than happy to oblige.

Yesterday I got a chance to meet up with my good friend Tommy who also likes to shoot in the water getting in some waves and the Sea turtles etc.. so I had a great time while Tommy showed me around to some of his regular spots. Got to see and swim with a bunch of cute "Honu" and get some shots with my Gopro and borrowed Tommy's Canon 5DmkII in an SPL water housing to get this shot below.

Used the Canon 8-15mm f4L fisheye zoom in an SPL housing to
catch this shot of a turtle coming up for air.

In the late afternoon I went off with the couple to do a little sunset pre wedding photos around some of the quieter areas of the North shore. Although we didn't catch much of a sunset we still got some sweet shots with some nice backgrounds. Heres a little sneak peek.

Stood on top of the car to get high enough for this shot

Thanks to Ana for assisting me with the off camera flash 8)

The big day is today and the weather is perfect so time to charge up all the batteries and get to work. More photos from this Hawaii wedding coming shortly! Aloha!!

Bought a drone! The DJI Inspire 1

Happy to announce I've finally got myself a DJI Inspire 1 drone to use with my business (and for fun of course) to provide video and still images for everything from surfing, weddings and engagement shoots, resorts, wedding chapels and of course the beautiful seascapes and nature of Okinawa.
For months before I bought the Inspire 1 I was already watching every Youtube video about drones that I could find and learning what I could and bought a little Blade Nano quadcopter to practice with inside the house.

Since the Inspire arrived I've been taking it out everyday to practice with and learning a lot as I go. Im very impressed with the 4k video and very happy that it has the capability to shoot raw dng still images.

I'll be setting up aerial photo/video packages shortly for weddings, real estate etc.. but for now I just wanted to get up a little sample video I've edited below as well as a few images taken with the drone and some behind the scenes shots. Enjoy!

Check out some initial footage from my first few days with the Inspire 1
