Last day of the year at onsen

Well its the last day of the year so decided to go to an onsen with an old mate I hadn't seen for ages, Koji, one of my old students from Canon and Izumichan, a girl I met in a club a while back who also knows Koji. We went out for a few drinks last nite and a catch up.

Koji and I use to often go snowboarding/skiing and to onsen (hot springs) after to chill out/warm up. Today we went to Adachi onsen in Takayu, a small onsen town up in the mountains about 30mins drive from here in Fukushima. I've been wanting to go to this onsen for ages but heard it was only open to the public until lunch time and after that only for guests staying at that ryokan (an Inn attached to the onsen) but seems its open all day now for anybody.

The reason I wanted to go to this one is because of the interesting layout and beauty of the rotenburo (outdoor hot spring) and also for its milky blue coloured water, which is supposed to be good for the skin and can apparently heal arthritis. It's also the largest retenburo I've seen. This onsen is a konnyoku meaning its used by both men and woman together in their birthday suits! Quite a strange activity for a gaijin (foreigner) to participate in until you have done it a few times.

The water is usually pretty hot, around 42-45 degrees. So me and Koji relaxed for about an hour swapping stories about Thailand and other adventures with the whole rotenburo to ourselves most of the time, for some reason Izumichan decided to pass on joining us in the outdoor section and stayed in the indoor girls only section, dunno why! unfortunately no hotties bathing at that time DOH!

Snowboardin at Minowa again!

Went to Minowa ski resort again this sunday with Haruna. The weather was looking crap right from the start but this was the only day Harunas mum could look after Jet. So we get there and it was RAINING and not a great deal of snow!! But at least it was pretty warm at around 6 degrees. We managed to get some half price tickets from mates we used to work with there so cost us 2000yen for all day pass. The Snow was wet and slushy and visiblity ranged from poor to really crap near the top of the mountain as you can see in the pic below.

There were still only 2 lifts open and the main steep run was riddled with gigantic mogles that the skiers had carved into the slope. Most of them being up to my waste when went through them. Not at all ideal for snowboarding or for anybody just wanting to cruse down the hill.
Also managed to meet and see some interesting people in the rest house. Including one old fella (about 60ish) wandering around on the wet floor wearing socks and listening/wearing Oakley Thumps!
(if you don't know what Thumps are, they are Oakley's with an mp3 player built into them. Worth around $400-$600 bucks)
Ran into lots of old mates we used to work with and also some students from various company's I teach to. During one conversation with a student, another oldish dude comes up and starts chattin in near perfect English about how he likes to climb mountains all over the world and trains every day doing aerobics and gym etc. Anyway I gave him my email addy and he said hes going to invite me to Nepal next time he goes with his Japan/Nepal association group. mmm yeah Nepal would be sik!!!
So anyway got in plenty of boarding and short skiing, but damn those mogles will kain ya legs!!
(>_<)

Karaoke time again!

Went out to rock out with Stu, JB and Mari saturday nite for an overdue karaoke session. But being near xmas and the end of the year all the companys have their bonennkai (end of year parties) so most of the karaoke places had a 1 hour wait before we could get a room ( ´_ゝ`) First went to an Isakaya (Japanese resturant/place to drink etc.) for some good grub and a beer.

Then we were able to get a room at Shidax (a big karaoke chain) and all you can drink. sweeet! Stu who usually listens to metal was doin some strange numbers, Avril ?? Holly Vallance ??!!?? Mari, JB's gf and my old student was gettin drunk again just off the fumes from the alcohol HAHA. Anyway it was a good warm up for next tuesday nite when we head out again for some more!

I.C kids Xmas party 06

Last Saturday was the work Xmas party for the kids. Had just over 30 show up this time. Did some songs, Jingle belles etc. And played a bunch of games. I donned the red suit this time round, it wasn't so bad but the beard was itchy as hell so could only wear it for short periods of time before it annoyed the crap out of me. The whole thing only took about 3hrs including setup etc. So not too bad of the chunk out of my Saturday.

Back in the Gym!

Started back in the gym today! psyched and ready for some hard training. I went to join a gym closer to my home the other day. Its quite expensive (9000yen) per month. Anyway so I do their into course, sign up and pay the fee, then they tell me I cant train there because I have tattoos!!! (not even visible when I have clothes on) Boooooo!!!

So Ive gone back to my old gym at Azuma sports park for the time being until changing to another one later this week with more free weights and better machines. Im at 70kg now and 15% body fat and hope to get to 10%bf and around 80kg. Ganbarimasho!

D1 round 5 2006 at Ebisu, Fukushima

Heres some pix i took at the last D1 (pro drift comp for those who dont know) here in my city. It was a few months back now but i thought i would put up some pix anyway. All the big drift stars turned up to compete but it was Kumakubo in his wrx (first win at home track) who brought home the gold. All shots taken on my trusty Canon d60 with Sigma 15-30mm and Canon 28-105mm in shutter priority mode. enjoy!

It's a couple of months ago now but heres a couple of pix from this years Halloween party for our kids. This year we had over 40 kids turn up and they seem to all enjoy themselves. It took 3 of us all day to set up just for this one hour party. Starting at 10am and decorating the room, break for lunch then back at it again until 5pm when the party started then take it all down again! ahhh next year im chuckin a sicky!

Here's me in my Jack costume from Nightmare before Christmas. And on the right is my Joey from Slipknot mask from last years party. Now it's time to organize the kids xmas party. Luckily not as much prep needed as the Halloween party

Jet turns 1!

Next week Jet will be one! He is already walking all over the place and loves to play with anything that he shouldn't be touching, especially beer cans! like father like son. Anyway heres a pic of me about the same age as Jet.

First snowboard for the season!

Got the new board out for a test run today at Minowa ski/board park where me and Haruna used to work. I ran into a few old mates I used to work with and hadn't seen in ages and got a cheap lift pass off em for the day. Always feel a bit rusty first time back on a board at the start of a new season, especially with a new board. Snow conditions where pretty shit, mostly hard compacted stuff and also snowing quite heavy so visibility was pretty crap.

Had one good stack for the day when the edge of my board bit into a hard patch in the snow/ice and I did a few flips and managed to fill my goggles and clothes with snow. Fully sick! Anyway it was good to get back on the slopes again. Cant wait to get on some Jumps again next weekend! I hope to get 360's, 540's and rails down super sweet sometime during this season. ✽**✻ฺ✽**✻ฺ✽**✻ฺ✽**✻ฺ✽**✻ฺ✽
